FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of equipment will you use?

-For the last five years I have been shooting entirely with Canon cameras and lenses. For most applications lighting is a combination of available light and a mounted flash. For indoor portraits I can bring a portable studio lighting kit.

Do you give the digital files?

-Yes. A DVD of picture files will be supplied. Like negatives, the digital files can be used to make enlargements (either in-store or on-line). Even if you don’t have a computer, most photo finishers will take a DVD in their machines.

I see a lot of Black and White in your portfolio. How do you decide when to shoot BW?

-All digital photography is shot in colour. When I see a frame that I think would look good in BW, I open it in Photoshop or Lightroom and play around with the levels until something unique and striking is achieved! If a customer doesn’t like the BW (or any effect for that matter), the original colour file is always left untouched.

How many pictures do you take?

-For a typical wedding there are about 500-800 exposures taken.

The average package includes 150-180 prints. What ends up in the print package reflects the best of the day's shoot .

With the picture disk the client can see everything that was shot, and order alternate prints from their own photo finisher.

Do we need to be with you to pick out the prints?

-No. I usually chose the best frame of a particular scene. When I set up a scene, I always take many shots, because people are caught blinking, scratching, looking away, etc. I chose the best frame and send that with the print order. With the included CD you have many more options for further printing.

How will you dress for our wedding?

-For Church, I always look my best, and wear a dress suit, shirt and tie. Everybody dresses well at a wedding, so should the photographer. In unusually hot or humid situations I may dress down a little for location shooting.

How do you deal with novice photographers, (or pushy parents)?

- I actually use other photographers to my advantage for certain scenes, and even step back to let them take their own pics of the scenes I set up. It's best to co-operate with them because they are going to be at every wedding. I’m always open to suggestions from parents or relatives. Sometimes they come up with really great ideas.

Tell me more about the slideshow.

-Taking about 40-50 of the best shots, I arrange them in chronological order and then present them in a slide show DVD set to instrumental music (or your choice of song). My clients love the slide show as the whole family can sit back and watch the events on the big screen. You can use your PC to make copies to share with friends and relatives.

How long does it take to produce the package?

-Most packages will be ready in about 3 weeks, depending on time of year and frequency of weddings. This time period includes computer enhancing, photo finishing and slide show production.

Do you need a deposit?

-Yes. A deposit of $100 will reserve your day should other clients call about the same date.

When would we pay the balance?

-The balance should be paid (in cash) either on the wedding day or when the package is ready for pickup.
